Yesterday, I downloaded the openQRM LiveCD to try it out. It's supposed to be a really advanced network management. I used my current favourite CD burning software, K3B which works flawlessly.

Then, post earthquake, I rebooted my PC to see what openQRM looks like.

Imagine my surprise to see an error message complaining that my system did not have the required 500MB of RAM. Blatantly false, since it has 512MB. The LiveCD drops to a command line after that.

Ok, first, unlike SLAX or Knoppix, it does not allow you the option of adding a swapfile if needed. Second, it measured my RAM wrong. Third, it abruptly dropped to a command line with no further explanation or help.

This contrasts seriously with a product like the Xen 3.0 LiveCD which boots a full GUI interface and creates two virtual machines to demonstrate all the features of the product without any user intervention required.

This kind of demo CD does not create any confidence in the openQRM product at all. I will be moving on to some other network management software.
