At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC)

 

 

ICANN's At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) is responsible for considering and providing advice on the activities of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), as they relate to the interests of individual Internet users (the "At-Large" community). ICANN, as a private sector, non-profit corporation with technical management responsibilities for the Internet's domain name and address system, will rely on the ALAC and its supporting infrastructure (At-Large Structures all over the world) to involve and represent in ICANN a broad set of individual user interests.

"At-Large" Structures

 

Underpinning the ALAC will be a network of self-organizing, self-supporting At-Large Structures throughout the world involving individual Internet users at the local or issue level.

 

In August 2006, the Trinidad and Tobago Computer Society (TTCS) applied for At-Large Structure status from ICANN on August 22nd, 2006 and was approved. The TTCS took part in the September 2006 and the December 2006 discussions into the formation of LACRALO.

 

 

Latin America and the Caribbean Regional At-Large Organisation (LACRALO)  

 

 

The At-Large Structures (either existing organizations or newly formed for this purpose) will self-organize into five Regional At-Large Organizations (one in each ICANN region – Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America/Caribbean, and North America). The Regional At-Large Organizations will manage outreach and public involvement and will be the main forum and coordination point in each region for public input to ICANN. The TTCS is obviously part of the Latin American and Caribbean regional At-Large Organisation

 

At the 27th ICANN International Meeting in Sao Paulo from December 2005, the Operating Principles for the LAC RALO, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding with ICANN, were agreed by ICANN and 10 At-Large Structures (including Trinidad and Tobago Computer Society) in the region.

Why should you get involved with ICANN (and TTCS)

 

Vint Cerf, the former chairperson of ICANN (he stepped down in 2007) , gave an interview about ICANN and he did a short message on why one should be involved with ICANN.

 

 

 

 

 

How you can get involved with TTCS regarding LACRALO's agenda

 

First, if you haven't joined TTCS, please do so by joining our TTCS Announce email list by sending a blank email message to: ttcs_announce-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. This one way list is used to inform members about upcoming meetings and other Society activities for you to participate in.

The TTCS has created the TTCS-LACRALO mailing list for Trinidad and Tobago Computer Society (TTCS ; http://ttcsweb.org/) persons interested in keeping up to date on ICANN related issues and on correspondence from LAC Discuss mailing and LAC-ALS mailing lists. This is to distribute content quicker and lead to better discussions when such topics are discussed in public.
